Makuake Project Vol. 6: The Evolution of the Wa Modern Wear Series
Building on the incredible response to our fifth Makuake project, we took the Wa Modern Wear Series to the next stage with a new challenge: the creation of the Wa-Yui Jacket.
Inspired by the beauty of upcycled kimono textiles, this piece was designed to be worn in a wider range of settings while preserving the elegance and cultural heritage of traditional Japanese fabrics. By blending timeless kimono artistry with contemporary fashion, we created a jacket that feels equally at home in everyday life and on special occasions.
Our greatest focus was honoring the character of each kimono fabric. Every textile carries its own history, texture, and unique pattern. Rather than hiding these qualities, we carefully designed the Wa-Yui Jacket to showcase them while maintaining a silhouette that can be worn naturally by people of all ages and genders.
At the heart of this project is a simple belief: Japanese tradition should not be something reserved only for special occasions. We want people to experience the beauty of kimono fabrics as part of their daily lives, incorporating them into modern fashion with ease and confidence.
The encouragement, feedback, and support we received during Project Vol. 5 inspired us to pursue new possibilities and push our creativity further. The Wa-Yui Jacket represents not only the evolution of the Wa Modern Wear Series, but also our ongoing commitment to giving treasured kimono textiles a new future.
As the Wa Modern Wear Series continues to grow, we will keep exploring innovative ways to connect traditional kimono culture with contemporary lifestyles, creating new value while preserving the beauty and spirit of Japanese craftsmanship for future generations.
